Fortis Health Trading at Rs 120 and Apollo at Rs 550, which one is cheap ? Nope it not fortis.

Fortis Total Capacity (No of Beds )  5180 with 38 hospital including recent wockhardt acquision .
Apollo Capacity ( Beds ) almost 8000 beds and 46 hospital

Apollo has other growing business like Pharmacy and Apollo Clinics.

Market cap of Fortis stands at 2700 cr, while that of Apollo at 3400 cr.

Most of fortis hospitals are new , it takes longer for a new hospital to break even and make money. While Apollo hospitals are running for while. Apollo had lot of organic growth while fortis is acquiring other hospitals to grow quick.

In the process Fortis collected good debt on it's balance sheet and expanded it's equity base , means sharing your company with more number of shareholders. Not good :)

Based on all these if I have to pick one for longer range I would go for Apollo , doesn't mean fortis is not good it's just that I like financial of Apollo more .

But fortis has financial muscles of Ranbaxy promoters and Religare enterprise. That could mean lot in India.
