Timken India was co-promoted by The Timken Company, USA (TIMKEN) and Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited (TATA STEEL), in 1987 as Tata Timken Limited. This was the first ever joint venture of The Timken Company. Till March, 1999, both the promoters, i.e. Timken and Tata Steel, were holding 40 % each of the subscribed equity capital of the company with the remaining 20 % held by public.
In 1999, Timken acquired inter-alia Tata Steel's 40% equity holding and consequently the company's was changed to Timken India Limited .
Timken India manufactures, sales and exporta antifriction bearings, components and related parts.
Timken India Limited uses cellular manufacturing, giving the plant, flexibility to produce any part with a short lead time. Timken India Limited falls under The Timken Company's International Bearing Performance Audit program. Hence all bearings produced by Timken India Limited will be of the same quality as produced by any Timken unit worldwide.
Timken India QS 9000 3rd edition accreditation.
Sales Growth : Timken has been growing slowly in india. Revenue went from 260 Cr in 04 to around 400 Cr in 2008.
Not a very robust growth. But recently company is showing signs of growth with new plant in chennai .
Timken is bearing company but it's future is tightly integrated with infrastructure growth in India.
1. all coming power plants is business to timken.
2. all metro trains and coaches run on Timken bearings.
3. construction and heavy machinary rolls on state of the art timken bearing
